Education
VCM seeks to inspire people through music. This vision is conveyed by the flagship professional vocal ensemble, Voces8, and a team of twenty-five young professional artists. This is being delivered through an innovative, participatory education programme for students from five to eighteen, of all abilities across the UK.
Thirty lead schools and councils have been enrolled in the programme this year. Each lead school or council will establish an outreach programme in the local area and encourage at least three other schools to participate in a joint creative project. All schools will receive a series of creative interventions designed to inspire their young people and offer unique creative and performance opportunities. These will be designed and developed by the VCM team following discussions with representatives of each school. Staff and older students will receive training to enable them to play a key role as designers and workshop leaders. Each project concludes with a celebratory performance to include all participants,
Our team brings a wealth of experience and expertise in working with young people in schools, in Young Offenders Institutions and with young refugees. The education team works closely with teaching staff to develop projects which employ cross-curricular themes.
VCM believes that music is important for the social and cultural values it represents and promotes, and for the communities it can help to build and unite. VCM motivates young people through music-making and helps them achieve a creative goal. The Foundation aims to reflect the diversity of Britain today through music education and make it accessible to more people. The overwhelmingly positive response which the programme has received from schools, Head-Teachers and Councils reflects the real need for this type of innovative education work throughout the UK.
VCM aims to establish a sustainable culture of creativity which will inspire and motivate young people, school staff and communities as a whole. VCM Facilitators will enable the projects to be driven by the inspiration and commitment of the students and staff taking part, thus firmly planting the seed of creativity for future generations to nurture and sustain.
